Chris Acheson
Chris Acheson currently lives and works in Manchester, after graduating in Fine Art from the city’s Metropolitan University in 2000. Acheson’s compositions often depict the mundane, but the artist’s fascination with the exoticism of everyday life revives these scenes. His experimentation with colour adds depth to his work. Vivid hues can inject a gaudy splendour to urban snapshots, or the more frugal grey tones may add mystery.
Being heavily influenced by cinema, Chris’ paintings echo Kitchen Sink film – the realism implies loaded meaning beyond what is depicted, and like a film still, the viewer is encouraged to invent possible narratives for the characters that inhabit his spaces.
Since his graduation from Manchester Metropolitan University, Acheson has shown consistently at galleries in the UK and further afield, notably the SCOPE Art Fair in New York. In 2006, the artist won the One Love Art Prize.
