Richard Davidson
Richard Davidson paints images of recognisable objects, often items of clothing, on isolated, unadorned grounds. Many of his paintings recall his prior career as a solicitor in the City, and feature formal, polished shoes, ties, shirts and suits. There is an element of reflective nostalgia in these works; they are painted with a sense of affection whilst, at the same time, they are designed to bring into play issues such as loss of identity, uniformity and containment.
Richard Davidson graduated from Wimbledon School of Art in 1999 with a First Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art. He has exhibited widely in the UK, and was included in a group show in Florence. In 1998 Davidson won the BHF Bank Small Painting Competition, and in 2009 won the St Wilfred’s Hospice Art Competition with Pallant House Gallery. His work has been featured in The Daily Telegraph and Art Review magazine, and is held in the collections of Taylor Wessing, Baker & McKenzie, HgCapital, Pivot Design Inc., Thomas & Worth, and other corporate and private collections in the UK, Norway, Italy and the USA.
