Karl de Vroomen Monotypes – At Opus!
Following the completion of his Masters in Fine Art from Newcastle University in 2009, for which he achieved a distinction, Karl de Vroomen was awarded a Hole Editions Postgraduate Print Award, and has been in the studio for the last fortnight making monotypes! The process is new to him and the prints are new for the Opus Art Gallery, and we have to say we’re impressed!
Monotyping is a type of printmaking made by drawing or painting onto a smooth surface, typically acrylic or glass, before transferring the image onto paper by pressing the two together, using a printing-press, producing a unique

image which uses up most of the ink. Karl has been experimenting by carrying out second and even third pressings, or ‘ghost prints’, before applying a new but similar image, created in the same way as the first – meticulously and by hand – on top, adding subtle detail and definition to complete a second unique piece.
Priced from just £600, these delicate prints, beautiful in monochrome, are perfect as a gift for that special someone. Browse and buy these and Karl de Vroomen’s other amazing works online at www.opus-art.com, or visit the Gallery.
